Directorate of Education, Delhi aims at imparting qualitative, continuous and inclusive education to the children of Delhi. To achieve this target many new initiatives have been taken in the recent past by focusing on improving of infrastructure & ambience of government schools, improving teaching pedagogies involving parents/community through continuous engagement, intensive and ongoing teacher training and above all addressing students with learning deficits by targeted teaching methods, redesigned learning materials and redesigned assessment tools.
Hon’ble C.M. has desired that the issue relating to the students of government schools who have repeatedly failed in class IX/X and are denied admission in regular school due to being overage, need to be tackled carefully to ensure their continued educational pursuits and avoid the threat of their dropout before completing secondary level of education.
The NIOS School Project is a step to address the specific problem of those students who could not cope up with 10th Boards CBSE exam pattern despite special efforts, there by posing a potential threat of their dropout at secondary level of education. The NIOS School Project is an attempt to give a new window of opportunity to such students by motivating them to opt for a more flexible assessment system, namely, the 10th Board exam under National Institute of open Schooling (NIOS) NOIDA.
The students of government schools of DoE, Delhi who repeatedly failed in Class IX/X are eligible to take admission under NIOS Project. At present, Total 96 Study Centers (79 Girls & 17 Boys) are designated at various government schools of DoE Delhi.
Total 07 posts of teachers (one for each subject) are sanctioned at each Study Center for teaching subjects (Hindi, English, Sanskrit, Science, Social Science, Home Science, Painting, Data Entry Operations). Appointed Guest Teacher are posted in the study Centers for teaching the students, registered under NIOS Project. Total 40 Coordinators are appointed among retired Principals/Vice Principals of Govt. Schools/KV/NVS by NIOS Project to supervise 96 Study Centers. The students passing Class X through NIOS are granted admission in Class XI in the regular government schools of DoE, thus bringing these potential dropouts to the main stream of regular schooling system of education.
